On a previous trip to Prague in the Czech Republic, Christian and I stumbled into a little cafe/ restaurant located behind the Tyn Cathedral (located in the old town).
After eating dinner we were in the mood for a sweet treat so we ordered the honey cake. We were not sure what to expect but it sounded interesting- in fact it turned out to be much more than interesting.. it was freaking DELICIOUS!
Despite having its origins based in Armenia, the honey cake has become a popular dessert in the Czech Republic; this is due to companies like ‘Marlenka’ who package and sell the cake to a broader audience.
When visiting Prague or the rest of Czech Republic for that matter, one must certainly try honey cake, but in the meantime, for those of us who are craving a sweet treat, here is the recipe to make it from home:
Honey Cake Recipe *via Czech Cook Book
Bake: 350F for about 6 min. (each layer)
2 1/2 cup flour
1 tbs baking soda
2 sticks of butter (1 cup)
1/4 cup honey
1 1/2 cup sugar
1 cup walnuts
1 sweetened condensed milk (14oz)
1 stick of butter (1/2 cup)
