The Beautiful Northwest – Our Weekend In Seattle

The Beautiful Northwest – Our Weekend In Seattle

Posted from Oslo, Oslo, Norway.

Over the holidays we were able to visit the beautiful city of Seattle. This northwest American city with its stunning ocean views and mild weather is a great place to visit at any time of the year.

Pike Place Market, Seattle

The two of us had been apart for the last month (Jessica visiting her family in Victoria and Christian in Vienna) so we planned on meeting in Seattle and spending a few days there.

To get to Seattle from Victoria you can take the Clipper,  a ferry service that goes from the inner harbour straight into downtown Seattle. It takes a little less than 3 hours to get across,  but the journey through Puget Sound and the Juan de Fuca straight is nothing less than enchanting.

We planned on meeting each other at our hotel- The Hotel Max. We really loved this hotel. First of all the rooms were clean and modern,  and above all the location was perfect- a few minutes away from the main shopping streets and only a 7 minute walk to Pike Place Market.

Pike Place Market

Our first visit to Seattle was two years ago and the highlight of our trip was exploring the Pike Place Market. This time around we couldn’t wait to get back and explore the market again.

The Pike Place Market has been opened since 1907 and is one of the oldest continuously operated public farmers’ markets in the United States. For those who haven’t been to Seattle before,  the Pike Place Market is a must see.

As many people may know,  Starbucks opened its first store in Seattle back in 1971. When visiting the market,  it is not hard to miss the original store due to the crowds of people that tend to gather outside.

Eating at the ‘Sleepless in Seattle’- Restaurant

When it came to eating lunch we had no idea what to eat. There were so many options and we were overwhelmed,  but after roaming around for a good half hour we stumbled into the Athenian Restaurant. We didn’t realize it at the time but it happened to be the restaurant where Tom Hanks ate in the 1993 hit “Sleepless in Seattle”.

We visited during ‘ Happy Hour’ which turned out to work in our favor. They offered cheap drinks and cheap ‘Happy hour bites’. We ordered the Ahi Tuna,  Fish tacos and Calamari.. so good!

Some of the best seafood we had tried in a while

Goodbye Seattle

After our weekend stay in Seattle,  we took the Clipper back to Victoria. The weather was beautiful,  and we were able to catch a beautiful sunrise from the back deck of the boat.

Seattle truly is a gem of a city,  and if you haven’t been yet make sure to put it on your travel list!
